I didn't hate the novel, but I didn't love it either. It was okay. If I had to choose a book, I don't think I would choose Lord of the Flies. I wouldn't understand it and it isn't the kind of book I would usually read. I mean, it is a good book for the people that understand it and know what it is about. For example it uses very "unusual" vocabulary. A word that was mentioned at the end was "ululation". If I really would want to understand the story perfectly I would search for every meanings of every word I don't know, but I wasn't that interested. I would want to know some of them and I did search for them, but not all of them. There were quite a lot.
I am not saying that I dislike it. It was interesting and with a lot of action, a different action, but you have to understand it. For example, I didn't know that Simon died because of all of the weird words and all the mystery until Mrs. Brown explained it to us. Golden's way of writing is different than what I have read. He writes a scene as if we were there and goes on assuming that what he said, barely in my opinion, is enough to understand what happened.
This book is made for good readers. I mean people that understand different ways of writing. I admit I am not one of those people. I am just a reader. I read books that seem interesting for me, which are unfortunately not many... I know I have to start to read more and different types.
I think this book is "different" in a good way. It makes the reader think a lot, during the story. An avid reader can easily understand this book. This book is meant to be reviewed over and over because every time you get something new. You read it in a different perspective because you know what will happen, but you can discover more every time. I think that this book is good for people to debate over it because of all of its different meanings.
The book was published forever ago. Give Golding a break. Simon's death was actually written really well, we were just reading it in class which makes it hard to understand.
